Welcome to the wonderful world of LEAF!

The Nissan LEAF is an amazing car. It is quiet, quick and comfortable. It has many upscale features, such as a standard navigation system, standard bluetooth, available rear view monitor (standard on SL) and standard intelligent key with push button start, yet offers great practicality with its rear hatch and easily accessible cargo area. It has a five star overall crash test rating and was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

I highly recommend that you start your research with this article. It was written by my wife one week after we bought our car in March 2011, and will give you a non-car person’s perspective on the LEAF. It is her first week of ownership story (my wife is the primary driver of the car). The second article that I recommend you read is this one, which talks about the real-world range of the LEAF. We have found that most owner’s dissatisfaction comes with not understanding the range capabilities of the car. If you absolutely must drive more than 70 miles per day, and a significant portion of that is freeway driving, you may want to rethink your decision. We are not saying that it’s not possible, but you likely will need to plug your car in while at work unless you are willing to modify your driving style.

As an editor, I don’t like to write the same stories over and over again, and my long-time readers don’t want to read the same story written multiple times. So we have an archive that categorizes stories by topic which can be found in the right margin of every page. I felt that would be more useful than the traditional blog-style chronological archive. But as readership has developed, it occurs to me that many individuals that are just now considering the LEAF, and many new LEAF owners are going through the same experiences today that we went through when we bought our car. So I have decided to put up a chronological archive as well as the categorical archive. In this way you can choose to read our archives in the manner that is best for you. I hope that you can find the information that you are looking for that will help you make your decision.
