Lack of UL listing slowed initial installations
ECOtality has had a couple of successes to celebrate this week. Earlier in the week it was announced that ECOtality raised $10 million from the ABB Group. ABB is a leader in power technologies that improve performance and lower environmental impact.
ECOtality, for those unaware, is the manager of the EV Project. The EV Project is tasked with providing over 14,000 Level 2 (220/240 volt) charging stations and over 300 DC fast chargers in 16 major cities around the country. Some of these charging stations will be for public use, and some will be installed in individual consumers garages as part of a data gathering exercise.
The second bit of good news is that the blink Level 2 home charging station has received Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing. If you have signed up to be a participant in the EV Project, and have been accepted, this is the charging dock that is to be installed in your garage. From the press release:
“Our smart Blink Home Charging Station was created combining elements of intelligence, ease, and safety. Our goal was to provide consumers with an electric vehicle charging solution that would be better for the environment, renewable, more cost effective, and safe,” said Jonathan Read, CEO of ECOtality. “Having the UL Mark on our products authenticates our commitment to safety, and dedication to providing reliable and innovative EV charging solutions.”
