9.3% share is a record for Nissan
While many of us may be unhappy about the rate of production and distribution of the LEAF, Nissan overall is continuing to move in the right direction. Continued market share gains bode well for additional revenue to invest in research and development. Electric vehicle (EV) development and continued battery research should be at the top of Nissan’s list to continue to move momentum forward and keep Nissan atop the EV curve.
As a brand, Nissan gained 32% in 2011 February sales over 2010 February sales. In comparison, Toyota gained 42% and Honda gained 22%. The industry as a whole gained 27% over the same period according to motorintelligence.com. Nissan has been on a steady growth curve over the past year or so, and its Altima sedan has outsold Honda’s Accord in two of the last four months. In February, Altima sales gained 7% over 2010 while Accord sales fell 11%.
For the 2010 calendar year, Nissan was one of the top three fastest growing automobile manufacturers in the U.S. – no small accomplishment for a company the size of Nissan.
Is there any way to find out how many Leafs were sold in Japan during February?
Good question stanley. I’ve been scouring the Japanese news sites, along with Nissan’s media site, but no info yet. We’re still looking.
