Boxster E to be a mobile laboratory

We are relying on Google’s translator to be somewhat correct, but it appears that Porsche will be developing three experimental Boxster Es as a practical test to evaluate electric vehicle (EV) technology.

Stuttgart is one of eight “model regions for electric mobility” in Germany to be implemented throughout 2011. Under evaluation will be EVs and the supporting infrastructure. There is governmental support from the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs to the tune of 130 million euros.

Details are few about the new Porsche. It seems that it may offer up to two electric motors totaling 180 kilowatts (241 horsepower) with a 29 kilowatt hour battery pack. Here is a link to the German language press release.

On January 25, 2011 Nissan announced a partnership with The Mobility House, an Austrian based electric mobility solutions provider to promote the use of EVs in Austria and Switzerland. Nissan has been building relationships globally in order to develop infrastructure support and governmental policy favorable to the adoption of electric cars.
