Dealership installations underway in Southern California
Back in January we wrote about Nissan’s plan to install 500 quick charge stations around the country in 18 months (found here). Details then were sketchy, and when we reached out to Nissan recently we got little more to go on.
Asking our contact at Nissan about Nissan’s plans for equipment installation and locations, we received the following from Brian Brockman, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications “We will have more to say on broader availability of DC quick chargers in the near future. I can’t provide an extensive list at this point, but should have a better answer for you soon.”
Currently, we know that Level 3 charge stations have been installed, and are up and running in at least three Greater Los Angeles area Nissan dealerships – Carson Nissan, Connell Nissan (Costa Mesa), and Glendale Nissan. In the San Diego area, we just found that the Poway Nissan store is installing their own quick charge station. We haven’t yet checked with other Nissan stores in the area about their plans to install the rapid charge stations, but expect to see at least one or two more in the area. As you see additional DC quick charge stations become available, please provide that information in the comments section so others might benefit .
I just used one of these babies at Power Nissan of South Bay in Hawthorne, CA. Apparently it went online today and I was the inaugural “user”. It saved me two additional hours of L2 charging and I was on my way in 20 minutes… Where have these DC QCs been all this time?
Tom – thanks for the input. I’ve found that Nissan is just quietly installing them. Dealers will still be able to control who and when we can use them, but once enough units are installed that should become less relevant as we may be in easy range of another.
The AQMD in Diamond Bar has one. I use i all of the time. Make sure you have a Blink membership-it is free to charge. Nissan at Tustin is also installing one. I should be up in a couple of weeks.
Jeff – Welcome to Living LEAF. And thanks for the updates on additional quick charge locations. It seems that many SoCal Nissan dealerships are adding equipment.

It looks like Mossy Oceanside has a unit. Kearny Mesa should be getting one and possibly National City also.
There were 16 (level 3) quick charge stations in the Chicago area ran by 360 green. It was very convenient to use a station that was half way to a destination 110 miles away for my Leaf. Several months ago, Chargepoint bought out 360 green and shut down all 16 quick charge stations. When I called to inquire when they would be operational, they had no answer. So for the last 4 months there are NO level 3 stations that exist in the Chicago (no thanks to Chargepoint).
Rick – Welcome to Living LEAF. I was not aware of the change in status of the Chicago quick charge units. Thanks for the update. Remember to check the plugshare.com site for updates. That is probably the fastest way to learn when these become operational again.
