How about under $10,000?
We recently wrote about Nissan’s new DC quick charger and now we have further word.
Collaborating with Sumitomo Corporation, Nissan will make the DC quick charger available soon through their current residential EVSE provider AeroVironment. Starting price will be $9,900, slightly more than our original estimate of just over $9,500. While our earlier information was based on a Japanese specification version, this information is based on the American release model.
Two models will be available – indoor and outdoor. The $9,900 version is the indoor model. The outdoor version will be more expensive though Nissan offered no pricing for that model. 480-volt AC power will be required for the US model. According to Nissan, this brings this technology to market at roughly one third the cost of competing equipment. This makes the development of that quick charge network much more attractive as capital costs will be significantly reduced. Initial installations are planned for early 2012. Locations have not been announced.
