Peugeot EX1 blows away existing EV record at Nürburgring
According to WorldCarFans.com, who sourced Peugeot, the EX1 set a new lap record of 9 minutes, 1.338 seconds. This beats the previous best of an electric car by over 50 seconds – an astounding achievement. As a reference, this compares to a time of 7:24.22 for the 2011 Nissan GT-R, which is among the fastest times for a production automobile. We have always been proponents of the idea that racing improves the breed. With the performance of the EX1, we will have to say that this is definitely the case.
Introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the EX1 is an all-wheel drive, 2 motor, 100% electric vehicle (EV). The battery pack is Lithium-ion with a capacity of 30 kilowatt hours, or six more than the Nissan LEAF. Each motor though, provides peak power of 125 kilowatts, or 170 horsepower. With a combined 340 horsepower, these two motors have already propelled the EX1 to 6 other world records, including the 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, 500 meters, 1/2 mile, 1,000 meters, and 1 mile. It has also been timed at 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.55 seconds. Top speed is 161 miles per hour.
Now watch… someone’s going to come along and say – “But how far will it go?”
