Today ECOtality will announce the first potential public charging locations supported in the first wave of The EV Project. For the past six months, ECOtality has been working with the City of San Diego, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), along with 15 other municipalites and regional agencies to develop the rollout plan for the coming infrastructure. According to SANDAG Vice Chair Jack Dale, “This project will install about 1,500 publicly-accessible electric charging stations throughout the region.” ECOtality will coordinate meetings throughout the month of August to discuss its findings and recommendations with business and property owners, retailers, and local Chambers of Commerce. Additionally, the company’s recently unveiled Blink charging stations will be on display at the Street Smart event on September 12 hosted by the California Center for Sustainable Energy. It is expected that the charge station installation will begin in October, two months prior to the vehicle launch date. Here is a link to a map of planned charger locations in the county.
As San Diego is one of the first launch sites for the LEAF we can expect to see future announcements by ECOtality in the other 16 metropolitan areas that will be served by the project.
