EV Project expands to the Bay Area

The EV Project

Good news for San Francisco LEAF buyers

ECOtality, the company behind the installation of over 15,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations around the country, has expanded the program to include the San Francisco Bay Area. Working closely with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, ECOtality received a $2.87 million contract to implement the installations of 2,750 home charging docks and 30 DC fast charging stations.

One of the goals of the EV Project was the development of a network of charging facilities from Seattle, Washington to San Diego, California. Moving forward toward this goal is the installation of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) in 9 California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, southwestern Solano, and southern Sonoma Counties. While this will not finalize the linkup from Seattle to San Diego, it will go a long way toward closing that gap.

Nissan and ECOtality are reaching out to those with a LEAF order in the Bay Area due for delivery soon. We also understand that Nissan is offering the ability to change your order if your car has not been built yet. If you had plans to purchase an SV and now wish to get an SL-e to take advantage of the DC fast chargers, Nissan may be able to accommodate you. If you are interested in signing up for the EV Project, you may submit an application here.
