New markets include Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Diego

Kroger is expanding from 74 installed charge stations to almost 300, including 25 DC Fast Chargers and 200 Level 2 stations. Previous installations included Oregon, Washington, and Texas. New installations will include 125 locations in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Diego.

“As plug-in electric and hybrid cars are becoming more popular with our customers, we are pleased to offer the convenience of electric vehicle charging stations at more of our stores in markets with the highest demand,” said Keith Dailey, Kroger spokesperson. “Kroger is excited to contribute to the growth of this national network.”

“Retailers across the country are quickly realizing the benefits of installing our Blink chargers. Independent research shows that Blink card holders routinely reward these establishments with more time in their stores and repeat business,” stated Ravi Brar, CEO of ECOtality Inc.

The good news is DC Fast Chargers are being installed, the bad news is ECOtality will be installing them. The one in north county San Diego had proven to be not very reliable.

Unfortunately, I think I have to agree.

The first Blink DCFC was installed at a Fred Meyer (Kroger subsidiary) in Portland some time ago. It started out very unreliable, but lately it and the other Blinks I have used have been much more reliable (Knocks wood). I think the latest round of firmware updates may have turned the corner, but we will know more when the rains return in the fall….
