Nissan’s efficiency extends to plants too

Nissan brand new paint plant in Smyrna not only looks great, it performs.

This new plant replaces a nearly 30 year old system, reducing energy consumption by 30 percent, carbon emissions by 30 percent and volatile organic compound (VOCs) emissions by 70 percent. It ranks as Nissan’s most advanced paint plant globally.

“Nissan is committed to increase energy efficiency as we reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing the highest quality vehicles sold in North America,” said Susan Brennan, Nissan’s vice president of manufacturing in Smyrna. Nissan was awarded the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year in 2010 and 2011. Nissan also received the highest ENERGY STAR award of 2012 – Sustained Excellence. Smyrna has received the ENERGY STAR distinction for the past seven years.

All manufacturer’s move to make improvements to plants as they modernize. These ongoing awards show that Nissan has been moving in this direction as a corporation for many years.

In Smyrna do they build only the Leaf?

    • Ernie Hernandez (LEAFguy) says:

Paolo – good question. In a word – no. Nissan started production in Smyrna, Tennessee in 1983. Over the years Nissan has produced a wide variety of cars and trucks at the plant. Current production includes Altima, Maxima and LEAF among others. In fact, in 1994 it was named the most productive car and truck plant in North America by The Harbour Report. It continued to receive that honor for the next nine years.
