EV infrastructure buildout continues

Blink PedestalKohl’s Department Stores to see installations

33 Kohl’s Department Store locations will receive electric vehicle (EV) charge stations in eleven states according to Kohl’s. Each location will host anywhere from one to four charge stations and will be available to EV drivers at no cost to charge. Locations are to be determined in Arizona, California, Florida, Oregon, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Kohl’s is taking an interesting approach to their EV infrastructure development – one that we haven’t seen taken by others yet. 14 stores in five states will be part of the EV Project and 19 stores in eight states will be part of the ChargePoint Network. Most corporate partnerships that we have seen to date have gone with just one provider. The EV Project runs through December 2012 while the ChargePoint Network will continue through October 2013. At the conclusion of both projects, Kohl’s will assess whether to continue, expand or discontinue to the effort.

Kohl’s has been a strong advocate of corporate energy efficiency. Currently Kohl’s has 110 solar locations in nine states. In addition, Kohl’s has two wind-powered facilities and has purchased enough green power to provide 100% of its electricity use. Kohl’s was named 2011 Green Power Partner of the Year and has 650 ENERGY STAR labeled stores nationwide.

According to the San Diego Union Tribune, two San Diego area Kohl’s will be receiving charging docks – the Chula Vista and Santee locations.

There is one chargepoint charger in Ontario, CA that I use once per week on average. I actually buy things at Kohl’s now because of the charger and go to nearby restaurants that I would rarely visit before.

gotmyleaf – Welcome to Living LEAF. I think that charging dock availability will influence shopping/dining behavior. Especially if providers are extending the charge capability at no cost to their customers. Thanks for your feedback.

A charging dock would make me choose to go to Kohls, So, they should install them in the stores in the Raleigh NC area,

Carmalee – Welcome to Living LEAF. It looks like the nearest Kohl’s with a charging dock is in Woodbridge, VA – not likely a place you’ll drive to in your EV just to get charged up. But… you can email Kohl’s with your comment (here’s the link). Select “Community Relations” as the subject to ensure that it gets to the right people. It is consumer’s voices that they will listen to most. Safe travels.
