National Plug In Day – San Diego style

Electric MGBNot all EVs are LEAFs

San Diego celebrated National Plug In Day today at the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) in Kearny Mesa, along with over two dozen cities all across America. The San Diego event was well attended, only partially driven by the free tacos proved by CCSE.

You have seen photos with tons of LEAFs before (we counted 43 today). If we took one today, it would look pretty much like that. In addition to the Nissan LEAFs present, we counted two Tesla Roadsters, and two Chevrolet Volts (one of which carried SDG&E signage on the side).

There were also a number of other conversion vehicles present. We counted a Chevrolet El Camino, A Toyota Celica convertible, a Porsche 914, a Chevrolet S10 truck with solar panels covering the bed (and a pretty cool license plate):

We also counted a GEM e2 neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) (hopefully driven from somewhere nearby) and somewhat surprisingly, a converted Hyundai Accent sedan.

In addition to owner’s discussions and oohing and ahhhing over the assembled vehicles, CCSE also coordinated some presentations by San Diego Gas and Electric and the EV Project. Look for more information about those presentations tomorrow.

    Dear Ernie,
Thank you for the report. I was also in attendance and your report is spot on. I think they announced 70 plus electric vehicles at the event! I would say that was a great showing from San Diego. It was also nice to see several folks who are interested in going electric. I let a great couple take turns driving my red Leaf around the parking lot. It is so much fun to see that first time EV smile on peoples faces when they drive an EV.
